- Containers: Options include mason jars, teacups, or tins. Raw material could be in glass, wood, marble or metal.
- Fragrance Oil: Optional, for those who wish to create scented candles. The raw material contains essential oil or synthetic oil based content.
- Dye: Optional, for adding color to your candles.
- Double Boiler: Alternatively, use a heatproof bowl positioned over a pot of simmering water.
- Thermometer: Optional, but beneficial for precise temperature control.
- Wick Holder: You can improvise with chopsticks or pencils to keep the wick upright.
- Glue Dots or Hot Glue: To secure the wick to the bottom of the container.

- Prepare Your Containers:
- Adhere the wick to the bottom center of your container using a glue dot or hot glue.
- Employ a wick holder or balance chopsticks across the top of the container to maintain the wick’s upright position.
- Melt the Wax:
- Fill your double boiler with wax and gently heat.
- Stir occasionally until the wax is fully melted.
- For accuracy, aim for a temperature of approximately 170–180°F (77–82°C).
- Add Fragrance and Color:
- Once melted, remove the wax from heat.
- Incorporate fragrance oil (typically 1 oz per 1 lb of wax, or follow specific instructions).
- If desired, add dye and stir thoroughly.
- Pour the Wax:
- Allow the wax to cool slightly (around 140–150°F / 60–65°C) before pouring; this minimizes the risk of cracking.
- Carefully pour the wax into your container while keeping the wick straight.
- Ensure to leave about ½ inch of space at the top.
- Let It Set:
- Allow the candle to cool and solidify completely, which may take several hours or overnight.
- If a small dip forms near the wick as it cools, you can re-melt additional wax to achieve a smooth surface.
- Trim the Wick:
- Before burning, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch.
